Where’s the Treasure in Tenby?

Old treasure map recently discovered of Tenby

Can you help to unlock its secrets?

Leeky Porridge, the infamous smuggler of Tenby had a lesser known, but equally notorious rival called Madeye Mooslee. Just before Leeky’s death, Madeye blackmailed Leeky into giving him his map with the coded location of his hidden treasure!  However, Madeye never managed to decode the map and the treasure’s location remained hidden!  The map was lost to generations of Mooslees but has recently resurfaced.

By the process of elimination, you need to work out the name of this descendant and his or her profession. You will also need to work out the grid reference of the treasure location on the map!   Madeye was a colourful character with a patch over one eye!  Can you also work out the colour of the patch and the animal and flower that he had pictured on the patch? Legend has it that he met a sudden death by a particularly grisly means!  Which one was it?

Directions

Simply follow the clues around the town from start to finish at The Five Arches on South Parade, Tenby SA70 7DL.  Five Arches Car Park is the nearest paid parking on South Parade but there are many other car parks available.  All the answers to each clue will give you an INCORRECT piece of information!  Simply cross it from the Answer sheet.  In a process of elimination, you will be left with the correct answers!  You will then be able to work out all of the answers above and then use the map to work out where the treasure is buried!

Accessibility

The entire route is on pavements, hard paths and roads. However, part of the trail involves a steep flight of steps that descends to the harbour from Crackwell Street.   Although these are not navigable by buggy nor wheelchair; an alternative route can be taken by continuing along Crackwell Street, turning left at the bottom of the hill and walking back to the far end of the harbor, where the bottom of the steps arrive!  There are also a few steps in Quay Hill that again can be avoided by retracing your steps up Sergeants Lane!  There are a few inclines and declines around the harbour and castle hill areas.

Solved the Puzzle?  When you purchase your downloadable trail booklet, you will also get the options to download the solution page at the same time. (but DON’T peek!)

Standard Booklet  as pdf download   £10.99    Suitable for  a group of 2-4 to share.  Please note, that although it is possible to read the clues on a mobile device, it will be tricky because of having to scroll backwards and forwards to access the list of suspects etc for elimination purposes.  The trail is NOT INTERACTIVE, therefore you would still need a pen and paper to make notes.  We recommend printing at home for the best experience!

It was a great day, I thoroughly enjoyed it, for more than the obvious reasons. ( the winner)  You are all a great bunch of people and ultimately the cause that money was being raised for is, most likely, dear to everyone’s hearts. Ultimately it is fundraising like this that helps push forward the treatments which in turn helps the people it will benefit the most.”    Collette Burns
