The Privateer’s Pilfering – at The Albert Dock

Can You Crack the Code ?
Returning with loot from a Spanish ship, Privateer Pratt managed to ‘siphon’ off some
treasures for himself, a treasonable offence back in that time. On discovery of his
act, he fled to the docks, hoping to give a coded message to his brother about the
whereabouts of the treasure. Unfortunately, he found himself cornered and, in a
panic, he stuffed the message into an empty ale bottle and flung it into the depths of
the Albert Dock, to be forgotten about for nearly 170 years! Ten years ago, the bottle
was discovered when the dock was dredged and was passed to the Maritime
Museum where it remained in the archives, uncoded. Last week, the message was
stolen. DCI Lauren Order managed to find the thief’s house, but she needs help to
work out the 8-digit safe code where the bottle is kept? Can you help her to identify
the thief, his alter-profession and the country he fled to? The guy was super cautious
because inside the safe is another metal box with a padlock on it! You need to work
out that code too! And then…. You need to try and decipher the message to uncover
the whereabouts of the treasure! Are you up to the challenge?

Directions

Simply follow the clues around the town from start to finish at the entrance to
Salthouse Quay on Strand Street L3 4AN which is directly across from Liverpool Bus
Station and entrance to Liverpool ONE. Your nearest bus station is St James, and
paid parking is available at Liverpool One. All the answers to each clue will give you
an INCORRECT piece of information! Simply cross it from the Answer sheet. In a
process of elimination, you will be left with the correct answers! You will then be
able to work out all the answers above, decode the message and find the treasure!

Accessibility

The entire route is on pavements, hard paths and roads. There are no steps on the route.

Solved the Puzzle?  When you purchase your downloadable trail booklet, you will also get the options to download the solution page and an additional information sheet at the same time. (but DON’T peek!)

Standard Booklet  as pdf download   £10.99    Suitable for  a group of 2-4 to share.  Please note, that although it is possible to read the clues on a mobile device, it will be tricky because of having to scroll backwards and forwards to access the list of suspects etc for elimination purposes.  The trail is NOT INTERACTIVE, therefore you would still need a pen and paper to make notes.  We recommend printing at home for the best experience!

It was a great day, I thoroughly enjoyed it, for more than the obvious reasons. ( the winner)  You are all a great bunch of people and ultimately the cause that money was being raised for is, most likely, dear to everyone’s hearts. Ultimately it is fundraising like this that helps push forward the treatments which in turn helps the people it will benefit the most.”    Collette Burns
