Old treasure map recently discovered of Ayr
Can you help to unlock its secrets?
A pirate ship landed in Ayr between 1-200 years ago and managed to raid a local castle of valuable treasures. Their escape plan was thwarted, and they hastily buried the loot at one of Ayr’s historic landmarks before sailing overseas with the intent of returning later to reclaim the treasure. Unfortunately, the pirate captain died by unpleasant means before he could return, and the secret was believed to have died with him. Recently, however, one of his descendants, a famous archaeologist, has discovered an old map of Ayr, showing what is believed to be the location of the stolen treasure.
Can you work out the name and age of the archaeologist as well as the type of treasure and the year in which the raid took place and what country the pirate ship sailed to? You will also need to work out the grid reference of the treasure location on the map!

Solved the Puzzle? When you purchase your downloadable trail booklet, you will also get the options to download the solution page at the same time. (but DON’T peek!)
Standard Booklet as pdf download £10.99 Suitable for a group of 2-4 to share. Please note, that although it is possible to read the clues on a mobile device, it will be tricky because of having to scroll backwards and forwards to access the list of suspects etc for elimination purposes. The trail is NOT INTERACTIVE, therefore you would still need a pen and paper to make notes. We recommend printing at home for the best experience!
